The Computer Systems Engineer will play a pivotal role in supporting laboratory IT administration and ensuring robust computer systems validation within a scientific or medical research setting. This position requires a technical specialist with a strong understanding of laboratory workflows, IT infrastructure, and regulatory compliance standards relevant to laboratory environments


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day IT support for laboratory systems, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing user accounts, and ensuring system availability.

  • Coordinate and execute computer systems validation (CSV) activities in accordance with industry regulations (such as GxP, FDA, or EMA guidelines), ensuring all laboratory systems are compliant and audit-ready.

  • Develop, review, and maintain validation documentation including protocols, test scripts, and reports.

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and IT teams to implement, upgrade, and maintain computerised systems supporting laboratory operations.

  • Monitor system performance, security, and data integrity, and implement corrective actions as required.

  • Participate in risk assessments, change management, and incident investigations related to laboratory IT systems.

  • Train laboratory personnel on IT best practices, system use, and compliance requirements.


How To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in laboratory IT administration and computer systems validation, preferably within a regulated environment.

  • Knowledge of CSV methodologies, regulatory requirements (e.g., GAMP 5), and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
