Reporting to the EHS Manager, the Senior EH&S Specialist (Environmental) will Lead the design, implementation, maintenance and review of Environmental programmes to ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate and industry requirements. We in EH&S act as advisors to all teams on site in relation to EH&S matters.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsible for the management of all environmental matters relating to the Industrial Emissions (IED) Licence ensuring monitoring requirements are adhered to for environmental emissions (air, groundwater, noise, wastewater and surface water). Primary site contact for the EPA.
Responsible for ensuring that systems are in place to maintain 100% site compliance with all relevant legislation & J&J EHS standards (for Environmental and Dangerous Goods).
Responsible for the preparation of EHS reports as required for both internal and external groups e.g. J&J Corporate reporting requirements, EPA annual reporting for the IE Licence.
Overall responsibility (system owner) for the site abatement systems including the onsite Wastewater treatment Plant and Carbon Abatement System – lead improvements of abatement equipment.
Responsible for ensuring monitoring and calibrations requirements are performed as per Licence and other requirements.
Owner of the Environmental budget including Waste and Outside Services.
Supervisor of the wastewater laboratory ensuring its operated in accordance with the EPA guidelines and good laboratory practice.
Responsible for the Total Waste Management Contract for the site.
Direct reports include Environmental Specialist and Waste Technical Representative.
Lead Incident investigation, determining root cause analysis and developing preventative actions
Lead or key participant in audits and programme reviews to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure there are effective EH&S Compliance communication & training program for EH&S activities in addition to updating policies and procedures as/when required.
Support continued evolution of site EH&S, compliance and Sustainability culture through effective communication and participation.
Perform to high standards at all times in compliance with Credo and EH&S Standards.
How to Succeed
A relevant third level qualification in Environmental, Science, Engineering or EH&S, with at least 5 years’ experience.
Good overall knowledge of legal requirements and best practices in both Environmental and Dangerous Goods along with previous experience in dealing with regulatory agencies (EPA, Local Authorities etc.)
Strong EHS general/technical knowledge and experience in the Pharma industry or equivalent
Excellent communication skills
Highly proactive, mature judgement and decision making ability
Strong analytical and problem solving ability
Self-directed & demonstrated efficient work methods, problem solving skills & ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
Previous experience working to ISO14001 and ISO45001 international standards
Strong collaborator with a proven track and a strong networker able of leveraging EHS&S expertise on and off site.
