Data Engineer profile: 

To accelerate the digital transformation, we are looking for talented people who have both a technical engineering interest as well as extensive IT skills. As a Data Engineer, your primary responsibility is to co-create the digital factory (often referred to as Industry 4.0) together with business and local/corporate IT. 

The program aims to provide a central cloud platform, i.e. a single source of truth, to serve as a tool for all business users. It is therefore of utmost importance to make the platform cost-efficient, scalable, and easy to maintain. This requires the Data Engineer to strongly focus on modular cloud efficient coding, harmonization of data, data-pipelines and data structures while installing best practices for role-based access management, cluster management in the Azure cloud and software deployment. 

Data Engineers design and build pipelines that transform, join and transport data into a standard format. These pipelines must take data from many disparate tables and collect them into a single data lake that represents the data uniformly as a single source of truth. It manages ETL processes, databases and data lakes/lakehouses, virtualization, and APIs. The Data Engineer is focused on maximum reuse of data, software, models and code to reduce time to deliver and ensure lean data management, architecture and minimum run-and-maintain costs/efforts.

As a Data Engineer, you

  • show interest in understanding the production process;

  • understand and connect business data;

  • facilitate the business by setting up scalable and well governed structures;

  • assist the business with use-case development and implementation;

  • are responsible for designing, developing, deploying and maintaining efficient data orchestration pipelines;

  • preserve and shape standardized cost-effective data pipelines;

  • implement best practices for data structuring, storage and retrieval;

  • maintain and develop data models that reflect our industry in Geel and the diversity of our business needs;

  • support data standardization and governance;

  • collaborate with teams to enhance data reliability and consistency;

  • support data quality and integrity (including tool creation for SPC);

  • are responsible for technical specifications.


how to succeed

As a data engineer, you will:

  • have a Bachelor or master's degree in computer science or IT or engineering;

  • Experience using Python, PySpark, SQL ;focus on robust and cost-effective code development 

  • Experienced with Databricks, Microsoft Data Fabric; have experience with cloud-based big data solutions 

  • have knowledge of distributed cloud computing and storage and big data frameworks and challenges

  • are a team player; 

  • possess good communication skills;

  • have strong analytical skills;

  • are familiar with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and version control systems (GIT);

  • are familiar with CI/CD for automated deployments.

This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. This contract will run for a 12 month period. This is a hybrid position (2-3 days on-site per week).
