Electrical Engineer
Location: Leiden
Working mode: Fully on-site (opportunity work occasionally from home)
Duration: 6 months initially (opportunity for a contract extension)
Language requirements: English and Dutch preferred but English only as minimum requirement
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting safe and compliant electrical operations while leading and contributing to capital projects across the site. The role ensures all electrical systems comply with applicable Dutch regulations (including NEN 3140 and NEN 1010), JnJ standards, and EHS requirements, while supporting reliable and continuous operations.
roles and responsibilities
Operational Support
Act as the electrical subject matter expert for site operations.
Ensure safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and modification of electrical installations in accordance with NEN 3140, NEN 1010, and internal standards.
Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis for electrical failures and operational deviations.
Ensure electrical work permits, LOTO, and contractor activities are executed safely and compliantly.
Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities.
Project Delivery
Support electrical scope for capital and improvement projects from concept through handover.
Review and approve electrical designs, specifications, calculations, and drawings.
Ensure projects are executed in line with engineering standards, EHS requirements, budget, and schedule.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, contractors, and engineering partners.
Support commissioning, qualification, and handover of electrical systems to operations.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure compliance with local legislation NEN , JnJ engineering standards, and EHS policies.
Participate in risk assessments, HAZOPs, and safety reviews related to electrical systems.
Maintain technical documentation, asset registers, and electrical dossiers.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve reliability, energy efficiency, and maintainability of electrical systems.
Support standardization and best practice sharing across the site or organization.
how to succeed
Minimum bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Mandatory IV certification: NEN 3140 and preferred NEN 1010.
Several years of experience in an industrial, pharmaceutical, or regulated manufacturing environment.
Experience supporting both operations and capital projects.
Strong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical systems.
Familiarity with contractor management and regulated environments.
Competencies
Strong safety mindset and compliance focus.
Structured and analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix organization.
Clear communication skills in English and Dutch.
Experience in a GMP-regulated environment.
