roles and responsibilities
The Digital Engineering Electromechanical Specialist will be part of the global DePuy Synthes MedTEST group responsible for support to New Product Development and Lifecycle Management projects under the direction of MedTEST engineers and managers. They will work with MedTEST and cross-functional members to provide technical computational modeling, engineering and evaluation support using common software tools and methods. This will include:
Design, develop, and maintain simulation models for complex electromechanical devices, including robotics, control systems, and electromechanical components.
Perform simulations to predict the performance of devices using multi-domain simulation approaches including linear and non-linear dynamic responses.
Conduct analysis of system dynamics, stability, reliability and design robustness.
Analyze results to identify potential design problems and make recommendations for improvement.
Collect and analyze data from testing to validate computational and analytical results (e.g. strain gauge, DIC and accelerometry)
Collaborate with teams and testing associates to research, design, execute, validate, and report on computational modeling and physical/functional testing studies
Participate on global cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development and testing process
Perform coding tasks necessary for system analysis, simulation, and model development.
Document process and results through technical reports and publications.
Modify or create CAD models as needed to support the simulation department
Clearly and professionally communicate findings, technical challenges, and proposed resolutions to peers, teams and management
Co-author and review reports to meet industry, regulatory & company standards
Manage, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously

Education:
Minimum of degree in engineering, or equivalent
B.S. in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Engineering, or related fields preferred.
Advanced degree preferred
Experience and Skills:
Strong analytical skills, especially in the areas of engineering (systems & electromechanical), statistics, Structural Dynamics and Vibration are required.
Experience with electromechanical devices is required with a robust understanding of robotics and control systems.
Experience with embedded sensors and communication protocols (IMU, SPI, Kalman Filter, I2C)
Experience with Data Acquisition, Signal Processing, AI, & ML
Experience with simulation software, ANSYS is preferred.
Strong background in software development with proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ or Python is required.
Proficiency in CAD tools (Siemens NX) preferred.
Perform analysis of output using statistical and Six Sigma analysis tools (e.g. Gauge R&R, DOE)
Experience with CM&S verification and validation, design optimization and experimental design is preferred.
Knowledge of industry standards and certifications relevant to robotics and control systems.
Understanding the design controls process and successful completion of the product development life cycle of complex capital equipment devices is preferred
The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage a varied workload, exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and interface effectively with project teams, and management.
Must be able to effectively communicate technical concepts, ideas and knowledge to a diverse audience and work effectively as a team member.
Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks. Strong attention to detail, demonstrated enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
The ability to review and critically assess technical documentation is required. Hands-on laboratory experience is a plus.
Proficiency utilizing the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project etc.) is required.
