Equipment Engineer Down Stream Processing

Location: Leiden, The Netherlands (onsite working F/T)

Duration: 12 months

Hours: 40 hours per week

As an Downstream Equipment Engineer, they will ensure our production equipment meets the highest standards. They will be a key player in our team, performing project related tasks including but not limited to; new equipment and/or product introduction support, support test runs on software and/or equipment, perform operational documentation changes, write engineering/ technical memo’s, work closely together with related departments like Maintenance, Execution systems and Quality. Assist colleagues in routine tasks with and tackling more complex challenges with support. Their effective communication skills will shine as they interact with both internal and external customers. 

Expected impact: Their expertise and hands-on mentality will be crucial in implementing Operations unit objectives, such as supporting by introducing new equipment and maintaining existing systems.


roles and responsibilities

  • Perform project related tasks including but not limited to; new equipment and/or product introduction support, support test runs on software and/or equipment, perform operational documentation changes, write engineering/ technical memos

  • Work closely together with related departments like Maintenance, Execution systems and Quality

  • Assist colleagues in routine tasks with and tackling more complex challenges with support

  • Interact and communicate effectively with both internal and external customers

  • Conduct analysis to identify root causes of equipment failures, downtime and inefficiencies

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop strategies and implement improvements to minimize equipment downtime and associated losses

  • Guide the management of routine data collection, analysis, and reporting to drive continuous process improvement

  • Ensure compliant documentation and timely completion of equipment records

  • Initiate, drive, and lead equipment improvements in collaboration with stakeholders

  • Support formal escalation processes to highlight risks related to safety, product quality, and regulatory compliance

  • Act as the go-to expert for sophisticated Change Control designs, from initiation to completion



how to succeed

  • Higher professional education (HBO) or university education (WO) education, in a relevant field (e.g. pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, life sciences, biological engineering, etc)

  • Recent graduate or experience with down steam processing equipment and processes

  • Knowledge and/or experience with pharmaceutical production process and equipment lifecycle management

  • Written Dutch required preferred

  • Knowledge and/or experience with pharmaceutical production process and equipment lifecycle management

  • Affinity for production equipment (Chromatography systems, Virus Filtration Systems and UFDF and automation systems (e.g. MES, DeltaV)

  • Able to work in a high-quality environment (GMP)

  • A good balance of theoretical and practical insights

  • A proactive approach with adaptable problem-solving skills, consistently assuming responsibility and taking a leadership role in their area of expertise

  • A focus on excellence and a customer-centric approach

  • Experience with lean methodologies and project management is a plus
