Location: Leiden

Imagine your next role as a Payroll Specialist where you process payroll in a team where you are independently responsible for various payroll processes in terms of input and control. 

Think for example of the termination process, parental leave, or the 30% ruling. 

In this position, you are responsible for overseeing the entire payroll processing and operationally supervising the payroll team, ensuring an overall efficient payroll administration. Together you will develop and implement new procedures and ideas to make the administration as efficient as possible where automation is key. In doing so, you will consider compliance and the limits around SOX legislation. You will also be involved in payroll-related projects.


About the department 

J&J in the Netherlands consists of 9 different companies operating within the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device industries. The payroll department processes the salaries of all approximately 3,800 employees in the Netherlands based on harmonized terms of employment using the payroll processor ADP.

Within the payroll department, payroll processing is highly automated through interfaces, and we process salaries on a process level. This means that all defined processes are distributed among the Payroll Specialists making cooperation an essential part of the work. 




Main Responsibilities

  • You oversee and monitor a complex payroll administration.

  • You operationally manage the payroll during payroll processing.

  • Efficiency is key in the practical operation of the processes to ensure that all processes are as efficient and standardized as possible.

  • You continuously review the processes in light of effectiveness in which making procedures more efficient is extremely important. 

  • Maintaining good cooperation with our stakeholders (such as HR and Finance) is essential.

  • You check payroll for accuracy and completeness in accordance with tax laws and social security whilst also adhering to J&J's internal guidelines and procedures.

  • You (together as a payroll team) ensure the timely processing of the payroll, and payroll tax returns and provide payroll-related information.

  • You answer employee questions and advise the payroll manager and HR regarding questions related to payroll processing.

  • Generating and submitting payroll journal entries to Accounting.

  • Providing information for audits (SOX among others).

  • You participate in payroll-related projects.



The ideal candidate for this position should have:

  • Proven demonstrable relevant work experience within a payroll environment.

  • Education at least MBO+ level (PDL), preferably supplemented with VPS.

  • Excellent and "Up-to-date" knowledge regarding tax/ social insurance/ international laws and regulations.

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, in Dutch and English.

  • Knowledge to handle a dynamic work environment in a matrix organization and are service-oriented.

  • Knowledge to work with procedures.

  • An affinity for IT applications.

  • Knowledge of ADP and/or Workday is a plus.

  • A flexible "getting things done" mentality and you are a team player.
