Role Summary

The Procurement / Transportation / Logistics / Contract Specialist will identify, develop, and direct the implementation of Procurement goals and strategy and deliver against targets for financial performance, quality, and service and compliance adherence.

They are accountable for sourcing logistics solutions and services in partnership with stakeholders to deliver innovative capabilities, and services, across all sectors.

Main responsibilities

Scope of responsibilities include:

  • Identifies business requirements

  • Negotiates all commercial elements of transportation contracts

  • Deliver on Regional financial, service, reliability, quality, innovation, and growth commitments

  • Develop deep supplier relationships with strategic suppliers to include data review and analysis, performance management and development and improvement of end to end value, and bring innovation to the business

  • Identify, develop and direct the implementation of Procurement goals and category strategies, based on deep subject matter expertise and an informal understanding of industry/market dynamics

  • Develop and manage internal and external partnerships by demonstrating strong leadership, project management, partnership, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Apply strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, in order to build relationships and understand customer needs.

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a regional execution plan relevant to their mode(s) of ownership.

  • Effectively manage the strategic relationship with external suppliers

  • Develop and convey mode expertise in order to identify and implement cost and/or service improvements.


Percentage of Time Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities

80% Execution of category strategies that are aligned to business partner needs. Execution will include Regional sourcing strategy execution, supplier negotiations, inflation mitigation, sourcing events, contract implementation and performance against established targets

10% Manage Regional supplier relationships, execute joint collaborative Innovative initiatives, and monitor supplier contract negotiations

10% Any identified regional priorities or GTP projects as assigned.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills:

  • Bachelors or Equivalent (Business, Logistics, Life Sciences)

  • 5+ years in logistics, transportation, procurement 

  • Broad-based understanding of business operations and practices and core Procurement areas of focus (Spend Management: Category Management and Supplier Management).

  • Able to prioritize requests and propose effective cost/customer service alternatives when necessary.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills

  • Ability to show judgment in developing new approaches and resolving issues, Strong project management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skill with ability to confidently present complex information

Experienced professional with business experience in multiple roles across a variety of functional specialties including Supply Chain and at least 5+ years within a Procurement environment. Experience on parcel services is beneficial.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong level of proficiency with core Procurement skills (e.g., supplier management and performance, supply market analysis, Category Management, Procurement Excellence, etc.)

  • Strong level of credibility with internal customers, and with the supplier community

  • Strong influencing skills with ability to see issues from multiple viewpoints and understand differing needs of stakeholders (e.g., businesses, Procurement LT, Marketing, R&D, Supply Chain); has "presence"

  • Successfully lead cross-functional teams, strong business acumen

  • Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to respond to changes in the external environment, while ensuring the organization is able to effectively and efficiently move through transitions

  • Identify the most important working relationships with people inside and outside the company including customers, vendors, associations, etc. Briefly describe the nature of the contacts.
