CAR-T (chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy) is an innovative approach to eliminate cancer cells, which work by harnessing the power of a patient’s own immune system. They are created from the patients’ own T cells and are engineered to eliminate cancer cells expressing a specific antigen.

To support the CAR-T program in EMEA, Janssen is building two CAR-T manufacturing centers in the Ghent area (Belgium) and new build Lab’s and warehouse will be operated from the existing Janssen Beerse site.

We are establishing the Asset Management / Engineering & Technical Services organization which will ensure that the entire asset portfolio and associated business processes for Janssen’s Advanced Therapies Supply Chain regionally are in place, are compliant and run efficiently day-by-day.


The focus for the role is to ensure and improve the Reliability and Maintainability of the technical assets in our Belgium sites. Originating and developing analysis methods to determine reliability of our asset portfolio to strive for the optimum in terms of uptime and downtime (for service). Acquires and analyzes data out of our CMMS and other information sources. Prepares diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, and reports to define reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements. Conducts an analysis of reliability problems and investigates to determine the required reliability approach for the situation, with consideration given to the cost limitations for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and weight, size and availability of materials/equipment. Determines cost advantages of alternatives and develops action plans that comply with internal/external customer demands for reliability processes/equipment to avoid failures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in reliability engineering within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment and a willingness to be hands-on in key aspects of technical tasks.


roles and responsibilities

  • Improving the reliability of technical assets in close collaboration with Operations, Engineering and other Site functions and putting it into action

  • Development and application of business processes in the field of Reliability and Maintainability 

  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation (FRACAS, FMEA, HAZOP, RCM…)

  • Integration and implementation of reliability concepts in day-to-day business by supporting curative, preventive, condition-based and predictive maintenance.

  • Trouble shooting in the field and supporting remediating actions.

  • Monitoring of asset performance incl. performance reviews

  • Own the asset replacement/obsolescence plan.

  • Suggesting opportunities for improvement and managing their implementation

  • Supporting the development/advancing of technical standards for assets

  • Monitoring, evaluating, and piloting new technologies to support the reliability targets.

  • Participating in Global Platform initiatives to develop or improve Global Maintenance Processes as well as securing those in the local organization.

  • Actively communicates regularly with project leads and project delivery stakeholders.


how to succeed

  • Degree in Engineering or related discipline

  • 6-8 years of experience in bio-/pharmaceutical plant based or consultancy role.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a bio-/pharmaceutical plant-based environment in an operational function (production, maintenance, process engineering, engineering)

  • Knowledge of and affinity with maintenance and engineering work in a cGMP setup is mandatory.

  • Knowledge of the CMMS (SAP-PM) and a Quality Event. Mgmt. system is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of Risk Management processes is highly desirable (HAZOP, FMECA, RCM)

  • Knowledge of quality requirements in the Pharmaceutical Industry is a strong asset.

  • Able to reason both abstractly/conceptually as well as practically at the shop floor level.

  • Able to operate at local level and connect easily at various levels in the organization.

  • Self-driven and able to set own targets and able to set priorities under pressure.

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken), Dutch language at level C1 preferred.

  • Proactive, open team player with a service mindset
