The Cell and Gene Therapy Analytics (CGTA) team is a dynamic group which is part of the Cell and Gene Therapy Analytical Development (CGT AD) in Leiden, responsible for developing methods to release our (viral) vector products (e.g. based on Adenovirus, AAV, lentivirus and RNA). Together, we use molecular, biochemical, separations and cell-based technologies to assess quantity, potency, purity, and identity characteristics of our products. We have a pivotal role between the process development, quality unit and regulatory authorities


roles and responsibilities

  • Actively applies and shares technical expertise in biophysical technologies, such as liquid chromatography (LC), light scattering and capillary electrophoresis (CE), and biochemical technologies, such as ELISA. 

  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team and contributing to method development using AQbD principles up to and including validation activities of the team as a whole.

  • Accurately and precisely assists in design of and performs experiments to optimize our methods for release and stability of our products.

  • Has a structured way of working and performs method maintenance including trending of critical method parameters.

  • Takes ownership as author of standard operating procedures and discussion of findings during sample testing and method development and troubleshooting by oral presentations. 

  • Supports the continuous improvement of an efficient lab organization performing method and equipment maintenance and keeping the oversight. 


how to succeed

The perfect candidate will have a BSc/ MSc degree (or equivalent) in analytical chemistry or life sciences with at least 1-3 years practical work experience with separation-based and biochemical techniques. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is highly preferable. In particular, the following:

  • Broad knowledge of separation-based and biochemical technologies, such as capillary or gel electrophoresis, liquid chromatography and light scattering like LC, CE and DLS and/ or ELISA

  • Broad interest and scientific understanding of (viral) vectors

  • Proven practical lab skills

  • Preferably also, pharmaceutical experience in method development (according ICH Q2) and quality systems such as GMP for cell and gene therapy and/or vaccine products 

The candidate should have the following skills:

  • Assertive with a can do mentality

  • Great teammate

  • Organizational sensitivity and conflict resolution skills

  • Critical attitude valuing accuracy in the execution of your work and that of others

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
