Janssen Sciences Ireland UC established its operation in Ringaskiddy in 2005 on a 100-acre site with an investment of €500 million. For more than 25 years we have been a global leader in the field of biomedicines, particularly in ground breaking monoclonal antibody technology, an approach to producing medicines that launched a new generation of products to treat immune related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and plaque psoriasis.

The facility in Ringaskiddy is fully operational and currently expanding its operations to continue focusing on producing biomedicines for both the treatment of immune related diseases and new and creative cancer treatments.


Job Purpose:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Analytical Scientist to join our BioTherapeutics Development & Supply (BTD&S) API team in Cork. This role will support execution of development studies and Advanced Process Control (APC) projects through provision of analytical testing (HPLC/UPLC/CGE). This will involve test execution analysis, implementation of new assays, scheduling, reporting of results and routine instrument maintenance. The successful candidate will function as a TDS API Lab Analytical Scientist subject matter expert (SME) and will be responsible for maintaining associated procedures and provision of training to other TDS lab personnel.


What you’re great at:

  • Strong analytical background including practical experience of analytical testing using HPLC/UPLC and gel electrophoresis.

  • Proficiency using CDS software (Empower 3 experience preferred)

  • Excellent collaboration & communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Experience of troubleshooting, problem-solving and method optimization skills.

  • Excellent team player with strong customer focus.

  • Excellent time management skills


As an Analytical Scientist your typical day may include:

  • Operation and maintenance of Analytical Lab equipment (e.g. HPLC, UPLC, Capillary Gel Electrophoresis)

  • Introduction/Transfer of new HPLC/UPLC/CGE tests methods to the TDS Lab

  • Planning of test schedules

  • Responsibility for all HPLC/UPLC/CGE project related tasks and representation of TDS API analytical team

  • Execution & analysis of analytical tests supporting early and late development studies and Advanced Process Control (APC) Programs 

  • Supporting early and late phase Technical Transfer and product development activities through generation of protocols/reports, technical writing, and execution of laboratory scale studies

  • Extraction and evaluation of analytical data, preparation of reports and presentations

  • Participating in cross-functional project teams.

  • Preparation and review of documents to ensure compliance with cGMP.

  • Expertise in analytical and technical issues

  • Assisting in investigations as required, event, deviations and CAPAs, to help meet product release specifications and timelines.

  • Keep up to date with novel analytical technologies on the market.

  • Fostering a culture of innovation with Lean and Continuous improvement within the department and with internal and external partners.


Be vital:

  • To be part of this high performing team you will have:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacy or related scientific field is required, preferably Analytical Science

  • Experience within a regulated biologics or pharma industry is preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in pharma industry with bachelor’s degree, minimum 2 years of relevant experience in pharma industry with Master degree, PhD no experience in pharma industry required

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written 

  • Capable of planning and executing experiments or projects steps independently

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, strong collaboration skills and flexibility. 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and requirements. 

  • Acute attention to detail

  • A focus on patients and customers always
