Imagine your next role as a Scientist where your key responsibility is to lead and support the execution of pioneering investigations, assess the implementation of the research outcomes at a large scale, and eventually supervise (EngD) trainees and (MSc) students. You are the primary interface between Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT), Operations, Engineering, Finance, and Quality.
About the department
The Therapeutics Development and Supply (TDS) Department in Leiden supports scientific advances in medicine manufacturing, early and late phase development of portfolio molecules. The impact of our research affects Johnson & Johson globally, and ultimately the patients, our primary motivation to perform our job. As a cross-function project with other department in Leiden site, we aim to intensify the therapeutic production platform.
To accelerate the advance and optimizations of our processes, realize value, and sustain implemented technologies, we want to strengthen our team with a (Senior Associate) Scientist. We are looking for an enthusiastic and independent researcher to join the R&D team at Johnson & Johson Leiden site.
Main Responsibilities
As the project lead for an innovative project within R&D, you will be responsible for designing the experiments, exploring and assess process intensification application opportunities, supporting the scale out of the developed technology, and establishing a plan to sustain the technology on-site
Lead key strategic projects in the areas of high throughput screening, process modeling, and scale-up that are linked to the goal of this project
Lead a team of trainees eventually connected to this project, and manage cross-functional stakeholders
In a cross-function environment, support the scale-up activities and develop the technology implementation strategy for manufacturing scale.
Develop and validate process design models for use in our GMP manufacturing processes
Carry out all activities in compliance with J&J and cGMP/EHS regulatory requirements
Support other activities in the team and work area according to appropriate procedures, values, and standards on an ad-hoc basis as the need arises
The ideal candidate for this position should have:
Master’s degree, EngD’s degree or Ph.D.’s degree in either Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Science, Innovation, Engineering or equivalent
Project & change management
Knowledge of and hands-on experience using standard statistics, and generating useful scientific conclusions
Postgraduate Qualification
(Biopharmaceutical) Manufacturing experience within a GMP-regulated environment
Experience in Upstream processing in diverse modes of operations
Experience with process modeling and techno-economic analysis
Experience with a business model
6-Sigma/Lean or similar problem-solving/decision-making methodology training
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Independence to manage the project with minimum supervision
