roles and responsibilities

As the Sustainability Program Lead, there will be regular engagement with Senior Management Team. Strong collaborative leadership, communication, and project management skills are important for this role as it will require leading cross-functional teams for multi-year projects.


This is a critical position to operationalize Reduction, Reuse and Recycling projects across our Direct & In-Direct Materials and Processing Aides - Plastics / Monomers / Solvents to advance our Sustainability agenda and drive cost reduction / avoidance at the Limerick VC Vision Care site. This role is recognized within the organization as being of key strategic importance in terms of enabling the business to remain competitive.


You will have the ability to identify and characterize critical manufacturing cost and sustainability challenges and understand in detail the critical interactions between the equipment, process & product, which impact on performance. You will be able to drive continuous improvement projects that will deliver long term sustainable and cost saving results. 

You will lead key Programs & Projects that enable JJVC Limerick’s sustainability and continuous improvement agenda delivering new & innovative Engineering & Business solutions in a timely and cost-effective manner. 


 This will involve: 

  • Actively contribute to and participate in the development and implementation of Vision Care’s Sustainability strategic imperatives and objectives.

  • Support and develop close collaboration between associates in Engineering functions, R&D, Operations, Regulatory, Quality Assurance, Planning, Strategic Sourcing, etc.

  • Development of key strategic relations with other J&J sites, to facilitate cross site sharing of ideas.

  • Provide Project Management governance support in delivering status updates and planning of activities for projects.

  • Identification and adoption of industry trends where appropriate.

  • Support Site Leadership & the Limerick team to deliver key projects that reduce overall direct material consumption, minimize waste generation, while increasing the volume of recycled materials used in our manufacturing process and final product. 

  • Work with Advanced Manufacturing / R&D to identify and develop new or alternate materials / processes that can be scaled and operationalized.

  • Evaluate ideas through concept generation and execution of Sustainability Plastic programs.

  • Actively promote the use of recycled plastics in new products, advocating for design for recycling and / or reuse in an ever-increasing sustainability awareness economy

  • Leads and facilitate interdisciplinary teams responsible for sustainability projects through Project Management methodologies.

  • Work closely with engineering, facilities, Operations, Finance, PE, and other functions to develop business cases and Capital Acquisition Requests for key Sustainability projects that help accelerate our Johnson & Johnson Climate & Renewable Energy Goals.

  • Ensures multifunctional inputs are obtained when developing project plans, developing key deliverables as well as identifying gaps, assessing, and mitigating project risks, and mitigating any potential conflicts.

  • Educate functional groups on the importance of environmental sustainability and the need for better management of our raw materials and waste streams to help achieve our corporate climate goals.

Required:

  • University / Bachelor's degree or equivalent. 


Preferred:

  • Focused degree in Business, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline.


Experience, Skills & Knowledge:


Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Materials Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or R&D is required. 

  • Strong business acumen.

  • Experience in health care or another regulated industry required.

  • Ability to build consensus, lead teams through influence rather than authority, and build collaborative relationships.

  • Experience building strategic relationships with internal and external project partners and stakeholders.

  • The ability to effectively partner and deliver results in a matrixed environment.

  • The ability to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations to facilities management.

  • Strong project management skills, proven organization, coordination, and action tracking skills.

  • Ability to function effectively and multitask when presented with tight deadlines.

  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.



Preferred:

  • Certified PMP.

  • Experience in environmental sustainability management.

  • Familiarity with GHG Protocol Corporate Standards.

  • Experience and success managing engineering projects in diverse regulatory environments.

  • Knowledge related to design or engineering fields (civil, electrical, plumbing, mechanical).

  • Understanding of / and experience working with new innovative manufacturing processes.

  • Technical experience & knowledge of Injection Moulding plastics processing, closed-loop systems & material testing.

This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. 

This contract will run for a 12 month period. 

Hybrid (3 days on site, 2 days home)
