Roles and Responsibilities
As a hands-on analytical chemist, you'll be the scientific detective at the forefront of safeguarding medicine quality by pioneering innovative methods to detect and understand trace impurities. This will involve:
Inventing cutting-edge analytical methods to precisely identify and measure tiny amounts of nitrosamines in various pharmaceutical products, from groundbreaking sample preparation techniques to advanced chromatographic separations and sensitive detection using mass spectrometry.
Leading in-depth chemical investigations to uncover the root causes of nitrosamine formation, providing crucial insights from early drug development through to commercial products within Janssen's R&D portfolio.
Driving collaborative scientific partnerships with internal cross-functional teams and external academic institutions to foster innovation and expand our analytical capabilities.
Ensuring rigorous compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines (like ICH, EMA, FDA) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in your analytical method development and validation.
Operating and maintaining sophisticated laboratory equipment, particularly advanced mass spectrometers, to ensure accurate and reliable data generation.
Communicating complex scientific findings clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to diverse scientific and regulatory audiences.
How to Succeed
To excel in this role, you'll combine your deep scientific knowledge with an innate curiosity and a proactive, collaborative spirit, driving innovation and precision in analytical chemistry. You will also bring:
A strong foundation in analytical or organic chemistry, ideally with a Ph.D. or Master's degree combined with significant industry experience, particularly in pharmaceutical R&D.
Proven hands-on expertise in mass spectrometry, including Triple Quadrupole and High-Resolution MS, and a knack for developing robust chromatographic methods.
Demonstrated experience in nitrosamine determination and a solid understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks (like ICH, EMA, FDA) and GMP guidelines.
Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with a curious and self-starting mindset that allows you to rapidly learn, innovate, and lead complex investigations.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills in English, enabling you to work seamlessly within global teams and forge strong external partnerships.
A results-driven, flexible, and dynamic approach to your work, coupled with a strong sense of urgency to meet critical project timelines.
