We are currently recruiting an Assistant Scientist to join our contingent workforce in Janssen Vaccines and the Bacterial Vaccines department in Leiden for an initial one-year contract.

 

More particularly, the Assitant Scientist will join the Bacterial Upstream Processes (USP) team as a bioreactor operation specialist. You will support the Bacterial Vaccines project teams by applying your understanding of professional practices of bioprocess development for vaccine candidate manufacturing. 

In this role, your function is responsible for the preparation and operation of a range of biopharmaceutical USP units fit for bacterial culture and harvest, including shaker flasks and bioreactors. Experimental work will also include sample preparation, analysis, sample management, and data processing. Cross-functional communication with internal and external stakeholders and support is a pivotal part of the job function.   

 

As an Assistant Scientist you will be responsible for:

 

  • Experimental preparation: Bioreactor build-up, media preparation, stock, and inventory managem3ent.
  • Experiment execution and process development: Seed trains, bioreactors, harvest, sample management, in-process controls, etc.
  • Experimental reporting to stakeholders. Electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) and experimental reports.
  • Support the USP technology transfer to internal and external late development partners.

 

 

To be successful in this role you have:

 

  • Bachelor in a relevant discipline such as microbiology, biochemistry, and bioengineering.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the Life Science industry and Lab.
  • Bacterial culture activities at biosafety levels 1 and 2, incl. genetically modified organisms (GMOs).
  • Operation of bioreactors and proficiency in handling related software. 
  • USP process operation, characterization, and development
  • Affinity with MS Office, databases, and sample management.
  • Affinity with conditional-based equipment process programming/basic programming principles and statistical software (nice to have).
