We are looking for an Automation Engineer as the onsite specialist to support the development of automation solutions for our Distribution centre hub located in Selzach Switzerland. 

The successful candidate will serve and play a key role in the optimization of processes, improving efficiency, and driving innovation across our operations providing technical expertise to the operation of a highly automated, efficient distribution hub for medical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support DC deliver equipment project automation workstreams from project design through project approval in coordination with regional segment

  • engineering team and other cross function project team members.

  • Support site WCS system design with equipment integrators and WCS vendors. Partner with site teams for knowledge transfer for technical issues and developing maintenance procedures for future self-sufficiency.

  • Design, develop, and deploy automation solutions using Industry 4.0 principles such as Automation, IoT, big data analytics, and cyber-physical systems;

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for cybersecurity, data privacy, and safety in all automation projects;

  • Partner with J&J technology organizations (ISRM, JJT, TQ) to ensure WCS requirements are represented in deployments plans (e.g. JJT Server and Network Infrastructure, Cyber Security & SOX, Common Data Layer Digital Strategies).

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing, incorporating new tools and methodologies into our automation strategy.



Qualifications:

  • Proven experience of 6+ years in automation engineering, with a focus on implementing Industry 4.0 solutions in a distribution environment;

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++, as well as experience with automation frameworks and IoT platforms;

  • Knowledge of smart technologies, including IoT sensors, edge computing, AI/ML algorithms and digital twins;

  • Strong experience with data analytics tools and techniques for extracting actionable insights from large-scale manufacturing datasets;

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams;

  • Computer System Validation (CSV) & SDLC Documentation & Testing Procedures; Microsoft.NET ASP & Windows applications or JAVA based equivalent;

  • Controls / Automation – PLC, HMI, SCADA, OEE, Warehouse Control Systems;

  • IQ/OQ/PQ based validation plans. Engineering change control, protocol, and test development, execution, report writing.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred Education: MS Engineering, MS IT / Systems related field

  • Preferred Area of Study: Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, IT systems

  • Preferred Related Industry Experience: Highly automated manufacturing and /or distribution systems with high volume throughput in a GMP and/or regulatory environment.

  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Rockwell Automation PLC and HMI Platforms and Industrial Data Centers; motion control systems (servo systems, robotics etc), barcode scanning, label printing & vision systems; six sigma /green belt.



Other:

  • Fluency in German and English is required, knowledge of French is a plus.

  • Travel up to 10% of the time to visit project sites and collaborate with global teams as needed.
