Johnson & Johnson
BE - Scientist Research and Development
Join our team as a Scientist specializing in Particle Technology. In this lab-based role, you will have the exciting opportunity to characterize particulate systems, focusing on key particle properties such as size, morphology, surface area, etc..
By gaining insights into these properties, you will explore how they influence bulk behavior, including powder flow, density, permeability, shear properties, and more. This comprehensive approach will encompass active ingredients, excipients, drug product intermediates, and solid dosage forms, enabling a holisticunderstanding of drug products.
The position is based in Beerse, Belgium.
Department:
You will join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development. AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio and for the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization of Janssen R&D.
The AMCI group consists of different analytical centers of excellence such as primary packaging and combination products, colloidal sciences, rheology, particle identification, particle and powder characterization, metal testing, NMR, excipient & polymer characterization, and oligonucleotide & peptide analytics.
Your responsibilities and your Impact:
You will conduct experiments in the lab to characterize (in depth) particle and powder properties of active ingredients, excipients, drug product intermediates (e.g. preblends, granulates and final blends) of solid dosage forms
You will design, set up and perform experiments in the lab and will ensure integration of the results and meet project deliverables.
You will continuously evaluate analytical characterization strategies to provide the best support possible to the project teams in CMC development.
Support internal innovation projects with respect to characterization approaches and workflows.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP and safety.
Stay up to date with the scientific literature in the pharmaceutical analysis field.
Education and Experience Required for Role
Master in Chemical (Bio)Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent by experience in a relevant area.
Expertise in particle sizing technologies such as Laser diffraction and Microscopy (Image analysis).
Profound understanding of relation of particle properties to bulk behavior and processability of materials up to product quality level.
Good knowledge on characterization approaches of powder properties (such as powder flow, shear testing, triboelectrification properties, etc.)
Good knowledge on statistical methodologies PCA/PLS.
Experience/Knowledge of crystallization and/or pharmaceutical formulation and process development is a plus.
You have good project management skills as well as communication skills (oral and written) allowing effective interactions with all levels of the organization.
You are a team player, able to work in matrix teams and Fluent English (both spoken and written).
Competencies
Fast learner with scientific curiosity, self-steering, pro-active, creative.
