Knee Design Engineer


Location: Leeds

Duration: End of 2026

Hours: 37 hours per week. Hybrid position - 3 days on site (Tues, Wed and Thurs), 2 days at home (Mon and Fri).

roles and responsibilities

Design Engineering support for the Knee R&D projects, with key tasks including:

  • Creating or modifying object structures in Windchill

  • Work with internal prototyping services to request and build prototypes

  • Creation and post processing of 3D print prototypes using office-based 3D printers

  • Create and update drawings

  • Create and update DVWs (Design Verification workbooks)

  • Create concepts and update models

  • Checking of drawings, model, and DVWs

  • Work with external suppliers on DFM requests.

  • Support project design resources in completing tasks to agreed timeline.

  • Consult on risks associated with devices.

  • Release items in Windchill as required

  • Sign off on content approvals on drawings or DVWs as required.

  • Assist in the “pre-population” of DVW acceptance criteria based on already known interactions (predicate device requirements, pin to hole fits, refine as needed, etc.).

  • Help maintain task board/tracking activities on your assignments and/or attend design “scrum” meetings for assigned projects.


Support to other knee projects as required, including but not limited to:

  • Creation of models and drawings for test fixtures

  • 3D printing and post processing of test fixtures on office-based 3D printers


how to succeed

  • Experience Level: 8–10 years of relevant engineering experience is required.

  • Industry Background: Extensive background in Bio-Medical / Medical Devices is essential, specifically with Implants and Instrumentation.

  • CAD Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Unigraphics (NX) for creating 2D drawings and 3D models.

  • PLM Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Windchill is critical, specifically regarding object structures, pull notices, and releasing items into POM.

  • Technical Knowledge: 

    • Solid understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for print creation.

    • Experience with DVWs (Design Verification Workbooks) and tolerance analysis.

    • Knowledge of Risk Management and MDR (Medical Device Regulation) requirements.

  • Soft Skills: Must be flexible, able to work effectively in a team environment (Scrum/Agile), and capable of supporting multiple project deadlines simultaneously.

  • Preferred Tools: Experience with BCT (Automated spreadsheets) is a plus.
