Digital Lab Infrastructure Lead


Location: Leiden - Hybrid working - 3 days a week on site

Duration: 12 months

The Digitalization Lead Lab Infrastructure in the MSAT (Manufacturing Science and Technology) Lab ensures flawless functionality of the digital infrastructure in the lab. This role is responsible for the digital strategy, issue management, maintenance/upgrades, and data management. This role is the single point of contact for lab operators and scientists concerning issues with the digital infrastructure of the lab. This role connects IT service groups and external vendors to resolve issues and facilitates digital and software lifecycle management of lab equipment and systems.

In scope of the digitalization lab infrastructure is (1) Open Bio server application, (2) PIMS, (3) MLL PC’s, (4) Unicorn (Akta and Wave Bioreactor system), (5) Raman and SyntQ. The Digitalization Lead will focus on the data that is generated by a system and stored within the JnJ network or on a local computer. Out of scope are issues related to the system or equipment itself. In scope for this role are data management activities, including developing backup strategies and ensuring data integrity, with JnJ data integrity procedures serving as guidance in the lab environment. Additionally, the role involves integrating QuickBase to streamline lab processes, exploring automation opportunities, and developing visualization tools to enhance data analysis within the lab. With respect to digital strategy, the Lead will (a) create/build upon the (existing) digital roadmap and (b) integrate our way of working with JJT, GET (MAM-ES), DOX/DOTS, MSAT PSMD processes.

The Digitalization Lead also partners with IT sub-departments and the client community to identify and analyze business needs and provide recommendations for technology solutions, including implementations. This role reviews and analyzes existing applications' effectiveness and efficiency, working with users to identify opportunities to maximize performance and minimize costs. This position leads complex projects without direct supervision and oversees the development and execution of implementation and deployment plans.

Responsibilities: 

  • Issue Management: Lead to the resolution of issues related to the digital infrastructure. This involves troubleshooting, communication, stakeholder management, and implementation activities. This includes resolving customer complaints and responding to suggestions for improvements and enhancements.

  • Maintenance: Manage upgrades and maintenance of the digital infrastructure. This involves being the single point of contact for system upgrades and maintenance activities which impact the digital infrastructure.

  • Data Management: Responsible for data backup strategies for equipment, if necessary. This also includes contributing to the data integrity strategy for the MSAT Lab.

  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, departments, and external vendors to find solutions. This role interfaces with suppliers and vendors to evaluate software, hardware, or services and make recommendations.

  • Problem Solving: Participate in complex root-cause investigations and performance issues to drive resolutions and improvements.

  • Continuous Improvement: Support and initiate improvements aimed at enhancing efficient data management and flawless execution of the digital infrastructure. Also implements the latest technologies developed by JnJ to data visualization and analysis aiming at operational excellence.


how to succeed

Degree: 

  • Analyst 4, IT development or Master of Science in Life Sciences with 3-5 years of relevant experience with IT infrastructure projects and/or Data management.

  • Key qualification for this job is a combination of a passion and proven experience for IT related topics (Servers, Data management and Data systems) combined with an interest on how to apply these to Biopharmaceutical processes. The second key qualification for this Job is on the leadership imperatives Shape and Connect. This role will build bridges between IT experts and Science experts to implement IT solutions to enable efficient lab operation.


  • Languages: Fluent in written and spoken English.


Skills:

Professional skills: 

  • General knowledge and understanding of Biotherapeutics manufacturing.

  • Advanced level of knowledge and understanding of bioreactor control software like Ignition-based OpenBio, Unicorn (Akta, Wave), PIMS, Raman and SyntQ (preferred)

  • Knowledge of Database systems, IT server infrastructure

  • Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues related to Data management (a.o. visualization), Server configuration, Databases and IT systems.

  • Collaboration: Working closely with cross-functional teams cross-functional teams, departments and external vendors to find solution for Data management or system issues.

  • Communication: strong communication skills are essential for the Digitalization Lead to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, translate technical concepts into clear language, and ensure alignment across various stakeholders.

  • Continuous Improvement: Support and initiate improvements aimed at enhancing efficient data management and flawless execution of the digital infrastructure.
