Environmental Compliance Specialist / EHS Engineer
Location: Leiden, Netherlands (6 months assignment with possible extension)
Hours: 40 hours, Hybrid working
Languages: English & Dutch
Previous Experience: Manufacturing environment
The Role:
Under the direction of EH&S Manager, provides engineering support to ensure Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability within Mentor Medical Systems B.V in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local EH&S policies and standards relevant to Mentor as part of Johnson & Johnson.

You are driven to search for practical EHS solutions that are compliant with local and national legislation and J&J Standards. This is with close interaction with other experts within the company. You are only satisfied when improvements are long-term and sustainable. You have a “can-do” mentality and see improving the EHS performance as a collective responsibility. You focus only on short-term fixes when needed because you prefer to focus on long-term solutions while you coach others to do the same.
Key Responsibilities:
Coach / lead teams of EH&S Representatives and Standards Owners / SME’s as part of Integrated Ownership of Safety Standards (IOSS)
Perform EH&S assessments within projects and set up, lead and / or support EH&S projects (for example waste reduction, use of chemical substances)
Lead incident investigations
Lead in- and external audits and inspections (for example ISO 14001, ISO 45001, J&J EH&S Audits, governmental agencies)
Conduct EH&S related risk assessments like facility, ergonomic and chemical risk assessments
Give EH&S training on EH&S related topics
Present periodically to the Site Leadership Team
Develop and/or improve EH&S processes and practices
Expert in Occupational Hygiene subjects (e.g. noise, ergonomics, exposure to chemicals), Transport Safety, EH&S Risk Assessments (e.g. JSA’s, Risk assessments)
Lead and / or support the implementation of EH&S Standards within your field of expertis
how to succeed:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Dutch and English in speaking and writing
Experience with contacts with governmental parties/agencies
Experience with EHS permitting and regulatory compliance processes
Experience with the International Management System Standards ISO14001 and ISO45001
An additional course Safety Manager level 3 (“HVK”) or comparable can lead to a preference
