Hours: 40 hours per week
Role Purpose: To support the development of the next generation automated platform for contact lenses manufacturing, the role is to contribute to the Proof of Principle (POP) development. This development includes design, build, testing, documentation and iteration of the Proof of Principle (POP) modules within an on-site automation equipment lab. This lab supports early-stage technology and process de-risking, practical engineering learning and informs user requirements specification to our equipment integrators.
roles and responsibilities
Lead defined work packages for mechanical assembly, setup, adjustment, test execution and troubleshooting of lab-based POP rigs and prototype modules, with guidance from senior engineers.
Create and update 2D/3D CAD concepts, sketches, layouts, build notes and simple technical documentation to support prototype design, modification and communication of engineering ideas.
Contribute to Proof of Principle module design to de-risk J&J equipment process steps or stations implementing practical improvements to POP modules, with the focus on repeatability, ease of setup, safety, maintainability, test robustness and readiness for further development.
Design and execute trials working with new and repurposed equipment to develop process understanding. The lab equipment includes robots, end of arm tooling, vision systems, smart transport conveyancing, handling, sensing and other automated equipment.
Document concise test summaries, photographs, build records, risk observations and lessons learned so POP knowledge is retained and available for future project teams.
Operate within site safety requirements, lab procedures and good engineering practice, escalating hazards, equipment issues, technical risks or unclear requirements promptly to the responsible engineer or lab owner.
how to succeed
Degree-qualified in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, automation, robotics, electrical/electronic engineering, manufacturing engineering or a related discipline.
