Junior Engineer Facility Management

Location: Leiden (On-site)

Duration: 6 months

Hours: 40 hours per week (32 hours may be considered)

Imagine your next project gaining high-level awareness of pharma manufacturing support requirements while taking on significant development opportunities to help manage a complex site with over 10 buildings.

An junior engineer Facility Management supports the adherence and improvements in safety and quality standards within an organization to ensure that products, services, and processes meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements. This role involves assisting in safety and quality assurance activities, performing assessments, collecting data, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve safety and quality issues. It serves as an entry-level position in quality engineering.

The candidate must be confident and eager to learn, as they will be working independently to establish the role amidst a growing team workload. Start date is ASAP, with a maximum notice period of 1 month. Working mode is primarily on-site, with occasional opportunity for remote work, and occasional travel to other local sites may be required.

roles and responsibilities

  • Focus on technical and analytical tasks, specifically gaining control of health and safety records, managing non-conformances, and tracking necessary information for investigations.

  • Perform analytical activities, including capturing data and making suggestions.

  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

  • Support conduct of formal escalation processes to ensure visibility of risks associated with safety, product quality and regulatory compliance.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to analyze and solve problems (i.e. Operations, QC, QA, Engineer & maintenance).

  • Communicate and escalate in a timely manner, any issues, or concerns to the next management level.

  • Understand and apply Johnson & Johnson’s Credo and Leadership Imperatives in day-to-day interactions with team.

  • Emphasis on delivering quality in all tasks.

  • Assist in effective support in core area to multiple projects or programs, gain progressive experience, and propose new improvements in processes and/or methodologies.

  • Work both independently and under supervision when deemed necessary, to meet tight deadlines while fostering a positive attitude.

  • Apply expertise of safety and quality requirements.

  • Identify, under supervision, any Quality Engineering non-conformance, subsequent corrective, and preventive actions, by documenting, investigating, and conducting root cause analysis, and successfully implementing corrective actions.

  • Assist in performing human factor interviews and the follow-ups.

  • Assist with root cause investigation analysis tools (i.e. 5WHY, Ishikawa).

  • Support in creating and updating maintenance departmental documents (e.g SOP, WI, FRM, etc).


how to succeed

  • Hold a WO or HBO diploma in Engineering, Life Sciences or a related field, with a minimum of 1-2 years validated experience in the (bio)pharmaceutical industry. Suitable for someone who has recently completed an internship.

  • Technical and process-minded individual who can work independently, establish the role, and proactively communicate with colleagues.

  • Eager to learn GMP standards, be a quick learner, and demonstrate strong analytical skills.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers on a professional level up to departmental management.

  • Minimal to good computer proficiency e.g. MS Office, SAP, Quality system, Document Management System, Training system.

  • Good analytical thinking: affinity in managing complexity, asking questions, using data, using information, and identifying gaps and root causes of issues, and be innovative (be able to think creatively) to develop a solution.
