Research & Development Engineer

Location: Nijmegen, Netherlands

Duration of the contract: 12 months contract

Hours per week: 40 hours, 100% onsite 

Essential: Previous R&D experience within medical devices or pharmaceutical, ideally a chemistry academic background, hands on laboratory role

This is a hands-on laboratory role where your expertise in chemistry and analytical techniques will directly impact the development and improvement of our medical device portfolio. Whether you come from a pure R&D background or a rigorous Pharma QC environment, your technical precision will help shape the future of patient care.

roles and responsibilities You will perform experimental work, process and analyze data, and report on R&D projects to drive operational excellence.

This will involve:

  • Improving existing products and production processes.

  • Developing and validating analytical methods for testing existing and potential new products.

  • Developing potential new products and production processes.

  • Support the installation, qualification and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

  • Support the planning and/or plan experimental work, and project activities in collaboration with team and/or under mentorship of senior team members.

  • Perform operational tasks related to R&D, including stock management and maintaining lab organization.

  • Provide ad hoc R&D support for Non-Conformance Report (NCR), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), deviation, and audit-related activities.



how to succeed


You are a detail-oriented scientist with a passion for the "bench-side" of engineering and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

You will also bring:

  • A B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Chemistry (Materials Science or Biomedical Engineering also considered).

  • 2-4 years (M.Sc.) or 4-6 years (B.Sc.) of laboratory experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as NMR, SEC, KF, FT-IR, and GC.

  • Proficiency in the English language, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work 100% onsite in Nijmegen.

  • Experience in analytical method development and validation.

  • Knowledge of polymer chemistry, including synthesis and purification.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
