Imagine your next project pioneering the path from lab to life by unlocking the structural secrets of tomorrow’s medicines. As a Scientist within our Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group, you will join an international team of visionaries. You will be at the heart of analytical development, leading global investigations for our commercial portfolio and supporting the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization. This is a hands-on, lab-based role where your expertise in polymers and mechanical testing will directly influence design decisions for life-saving combination products.


roles and responsibilities 

You will lead advanced analytical characterization and optimization of pharmaceutical products.

This will involve:

  • Perform advanced materials characterization experiments using mechanical testers (e.g. Zwick, Instron), imaging and spectroscopy instruments (e.g. IR, SEM and Optical Microscopy), ensuring high-quality sample preparation and optimal instrument operation.

  • Analyze and interpret results, providing clear, data-driven insights to address product quality, structure, and performance questions.

  • Maintain and calibrate equipment, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with laboratory standards.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to present imaging findings, foster scientific exchange, and contribute to a collaborative innovation culture.



how to succeed 

You are a detail-oriented scientist with a passion for materials science and multidisciplinary collaboration.

You will also bring:

  • PhD degree (or equivalent) in Polymer and material Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Physics.

  • Prior practical laboratory experience in mechanical properties testing (e.g. uniaxial testing, injectability, 3-point bending).

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

  • Prior work with combination products and medical devices.

  • Knowledge in advanced imaging techniques (IR/Raman Microscopy, SEM, XCT).

  • Basic data analysis skills and strong problem-solving abilities.

  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work in matrix teams.
