roles and responsibilities
Ensure the Agile Release Train (ART) stays on course by facilitating its events and processes and assisting the teams in delivering value and driving relentless improvement. Typically a servant leader who acts as Chief Scrum Master and coach for the ART
This will involve
Manage and optimise the flow of value through the ART using various tools, such as the program and value stream Kanbans
Establish and communicate the annual calendars for iterations and program increments
Facilitate Program Increment (PI) Planning (communicate vision, roadmap and prioritised features), PI Planning readiness, Scrum of Scrums, System Demos, other relevant ART-level syncs, and assist with PO Sync meetings as needed to help the ART manage work
Aggregate team objectives into program objectives and publish them for visibility and
transparency
Assist with execution and feature/capability completion tracking (OKRs/metrics)
Facilitate periodic synchronisation meetings
Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating team feature and capability estimation and roll-up to the value stream and portfolio level
Encourage collaboration between teams, system and solution architects, and UX designers
Work with Chief Product Owner, Product Owners, Tech Leads, and other stakeholders to communicate objectives, risks, dependencies and key milestones to help ensure strategy and execution alignment
Help manage risks and dependencies, escalate and track impediments
Drive continuous improvement via workshops; assess the maturity level continuum of the program/value stream
how to succeed
To excel in this role, we seek a candidate with extensive experience, ideally 7 to 8 years or more, as a Scrum Master. Beyond just being well-seasoned in Scrum practices, we value someone who can see the bigger picture. In addition to your strong leadership skills, we expect you to strike a thoughtful balance, being assertive when necessary to ensure alignment with business requirements while also fostering collaboration and agile principles.
You will also bring:
Strong familiarity with ART product vision and experience
Deep understanding of how to effectively scale Agile
Ability to summarise and track PI objectives and the program dependency board
Ability to assess the agility level of the ART and help them improve
Deep and effective expertise in software delivery, program management, and stakeholder management
Strong familiarity with Agile metric techniques (e.g., what to capture, how to interpret result, and how to use them to course correct)
Communicate effectively across the enterprise, program, and team levels
Able to facilitate, listen and present in front of team and management
Coach and mentor to teams and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
Foster communities of practice and use of engineering and quality practices
Have a Lean-Agile mindset and competent in Lean-Agile principles and systems thinking
Be assertive, with the confidence to be the voice of authority – not afraid to do what is best for the team
Bring a high-energy and passionate outlook to the job and can influence those around them
Build a sense of trust and rapport that creates a comfortable & effective workplace
Benefits
This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. While the initial contract is structured for a minimum duration of 3 months, the intrinsic nature of the project as a multi-year platform strongly indicates a high probability of continuous extension beyond the initial period, making the prospect of an ongoing commitment highly likely.
