Senior Project Engineer

Location: Limerick

Duration: 12 months

Hours: 40

We are seeking a Senior Simulation Resource to lead and deliver advanced engineering simulation across Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Ray Tracing (optical/lighting or geometric ray tracing) domains. This individual will provide technical leadership, develop validated simulation workflows, enable cross-functional teams, and drive solver and HPC best practices to accelerate product development and decision making.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end simulation projects in FEA, CFD and ray tracing: problem definition, model setup, meshing, solver selection, post-processing, and reporting.

  • Develop and maintain reusable simulation workflows, templates, and automation (scripting, parameterization).

  • Provide technical consultation to design, test and systems engineering teams; translate requirements into validated simulation strategies.

  • Mentor and upskill engineers: run training sessions, code reviews, and best-practice workshops.

  • Validate simulation results against test data; quantify uncertainty and provide recommendations for design decisions.

  • Optimize simulation throughput using HPC, GPU acceleration and solver settings; manage job scheduling and resource use.

  • Implement QA processes for model control, versioning, and traceability.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define simulation KPIs, manage timelines and present technical findings to non-technical audiences.

How to Succeed

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Optical Engineering, or related field; Master’s or PhD preferred.

  • Professional certifications (e.g., ANSYS, Altair) are a plus but not required.

  • Proven firsthand experience (typically 6+ years) delivering industrial FEA and CFD projects.

  • Practical experience with ray tracing for optical/lighting simulation or geometric ray tracing workflows (e.g., for illumination, sensor modelling, stray light analysis).

  • Experience with commercial and/or open-source tools (examples): Abaqus, ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Fluent/CFX, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, HyperWorks/Altair, LS-DYNA, ParaView, EnSight, and ray-tracing toolkits or rendering engines (industry-neutral description: GPU-accelerated ray tracers, embree-like libraries, renderer toolchains). Comfortable selecting the right tool for the problem.

  • Scripting and automation: experience with Bash, MATLAB, or C++ is a plus.

  • Experience with model validation, data analysis, and uncertainty quantification; able to design validation plans and document assumptions.
