Senior Scientist - Advanced Image Analytics and Machine Learning

The scientist will join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development. AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio and for the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization of J&J Innovative Medicine.
Join our team as a Scientist specializing in Imaging & Computer Vision. In this lab-based role, you will be responsible for supporting and performing tasks in advanced imaging techniques such as X-ray Microscopy (XRM), MRI, RAMAN, IR, THz imaging, SEM, and Optical Microscopy to enhance our understanding of product and processes. Your contributions will also include particle identification investigations, utilizing computer vision to effectively analyse and interpret imaging data. You will develop and refine computer vision models that will enhance product analysis and support data-driven decision-making. Collaboration will be key as you work with teams at the interface of Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Products (DP) to integrate insights from imaging into product development strategies. Staying updated on emerging imaging technologies and AI applications will be crucial for continuously improving our analytical capabilities. Additionally, you will participate in cross-functional meetings to share knowledge, contributing to a culture of innovation and collaboration.
roles and responsibilities
Support/Perform advanced imaging techniques, including X-ray Microscopy (XRM), MRI, RAMAN, IR, THz imaging, SEM, and Optical Microscopy, to improve our understanding of product performance.
Contributing to particle identification investigations, utilizing computer vision to analyze and interpret imaging data effectively.
Develop and refine computer vision models to enhance product analysis and support data-driven decision-making.
Collaborate with teams at the interface of Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Products (DP) to integrate insights from imaging into product development strategies.
Stay updated on emerging imaging technologies and AI applications to continuously improve our analytical capabilities.
Participate in cross-functional meetings to share knowledge and contribute to a culture of innovation and collaboration.
how to succeed
Education & Experience
MSc or PhD (Preferred) in Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, Computer Vision, or a related field.
Expertise in machine learning, computer vision, or image analysis.
Familiarity with advanced imaging techniques such as XCT, THz, MRI, SEM, and Optical Microscopy is preferred.
Expertise in machine learning methods, including CNNs, Instance Segmentation, GANs, GenAI and other AI techniques for image analysis.
Good knowledge of programming languages such as Python and/or R.
Familiarity with image analysis software such as ImageJ, Dragonfly and/or Avizo is preferred.
Understanding of model evaluation, optimization, and deployment in a real-world setting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive mindset to seek innovative solutions.
You have good project management skills as well as communication skills (oral and written) allowing effective interactions with all levels of the organization.
You are a team player, able to work in matrix teams and Fluent English (both spoken and written).
