You will join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development. AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio and for the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization of J&J Innovative Medicine.

In this lab-based position, you will specialize in the hands-on application and development of advanced imaging techniques to investigate pharmaceutical materials, products, and processes.

The primary purpose of this role is generating high-quality imaging datasets, interpreting results, and delivering critical insights that support product understanding, troubleshooting, and development.


This will involve:

  • Perform advanced imaging experiments using XRM, MRI, Raman, IR, THz, SEM, and Optical Microscopy, ensuring high-quality sample preparation and optimal instrument operation.

  • Analyze and interpret imaging results, providing clear, data-driven insights to address product quality, structure, and performance questions.

  • Maintain and calibrate imaging equipment, ensuring operational excellence and compliance with laboratory standards.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings to present imaging findings, foster scientific exchange, and contribute to a collaborative innovation culture.


how to succeed.

To be successful in this role, you will have hands-on experience in laboratory-based imaging and microscopy methods, image analysis, and meticulous data handling. You must have the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to ensure imaging results are effectively integrated into product and process evaluations.


You will also bring:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.

  • Prior practical laboratory experience in at least one of the following advanced imaging techniques: X-ray microscopy (XRM/XCT), MRI, Raman spectroscopy, IR, THz imaging, SEM, and Optical Microscopy.

  • Experience in sample preparation, instrument operation, and imaging workflow management.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail in experimental work.

  • Good project organization skills and clear written and oral communication abilities (Fluent in English).

  • Familiarity with image acquisition and processing software (e.g., ImageJ, Dragonfly, Avizo, or similar) is a plus.
