The associate scientist histology will play a crucial role in our histology laboratory team, assisting in the preparation and analysis of tissue samples for drug discovery purposes. The ideal candidate will possess a (strong) background in neurocience and histological techniques, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This role involves performing a variety of technical procedures to support our ongoing projects in neuroscience discovery focusing on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.


roles and responsibilities

  • Prepare and process tissue samples for microscopic examination, including fixation, embedding, sectioning, and staining. 

  • Perform routine and specialized histological staining techniques.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including microtomes, cryostats, automated stainers, and microscopes. 

  • Assist in the development and optimization of new histological protocols and techniques.

  • Document and maintain accurate and detailed records of all procedures and results in accordance with laboratory standards. 

  • Collaborate with pathologists, scientist and other laboratory staff to support ongoing projects.

  • Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory requirements. 

  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure accuracy and reliability of results. 

  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide technical support to other team members as needed.

  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, presentations and publications.


how to succeed

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Laboratory Techniques or related fields.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a histology laboratory or related setting.

  • Proficiency in histological techniques including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and stainings.

  • Familiarity with immunohistochemistry and other advanced staining methods is a plus. 

  • Knowledge of neuro-anatomy is a strong plus. 

  • Experience in imaging is an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity. 

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (English). 

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications.

  • This role offers a very competitive hourly rate. This contract will run for a 12 month duration and has a strong chance of extension. 

  • This position requires working in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.

  • Must be able to stand or sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.

  • May require occasional evening or weekend work to meet project deadlines.
