roles and responsibilities
Deliver the L&D business partnership, consultancy, and resources to ensure the prioritisation and growth of our people, teams and culture within business units (BU), teams and functions, that supports our organisational priorities
Identify priority performance objectives for assigned groups, make recommendations and provide effective and timely development interventions that enable learning, growth and thriving teams.
To work closely with BU & leadership teams, developing effective partnership relationships and deep business need insights, in order to promote learning and performance, identify performance gaps and co-define appropriate and effective solutions.
This will involve:
Regularly consult with senior managers, particularly of customer-facing roles,(but not
limited to) to identify immediate, medium and longer-term development needs, drawing on best practice in development and learning theory to design and direct appropriate resourcing and intervention. Regular contact with CVTs to align training with Brand needs and to have a strong and clear understanding of organisational and BU priorities and challenges.
Brand Academies:
Design, deliver, or co-ordinate delivery and facilitation of training for new customer facing staff in all knowledge and skills required to achieve successful customer engagement. This includes accountability for the effective facilitation of comprehensive training in business skills and product and disease area knowledge for new or transitioning customer facing staff
Lead and shape a virtual team of cross-functional internal and external (as required) disease area and product experts in the delivery of product training.
Collaborate closely with BBHR and L&D colleagues, locally, regionally and globally to drive use of J&J people tools and processes. These include the J&J Learn ecosystem, role profiles and competency models.
Ensure training materials are compliant with regulatory requirements, such as the ABPI Code of Practice. Lead the update and approval of all product classroom training, e-learning and product training materials, a minimum of every 2 years, or as required, to comply with regulatory requirements
Validate critical role knowledge in line with regulatory requirements.
Deliver effective Project Management of assigned performance and development initiatives
Partner with Learning Technology Manager to exploit technology to improve the uptake, quality and impact of learning and performance interventions and J&J Learn ecosystem
Oversee, measure and interpret the delivery, quality and impact of training and development interventions and investments.
Provide structured support and guidance to improve skills and performance and promote continuous professional development and career progression
Maintain good business environment awareness through monitoring developments in our organisation, our industry and our healthcare environment
Key Compliance Requirements
Ensure safety reporting requirements (timely AE/PQC reporting) as set out in company policies and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are met and appropriately managed when planning projects, developing materials, executing projects and contracting vendors
Ensure HCC, Code of Practice and legal requirements (Fair Market Value, Transfer of Value rules, Promotional Materials rules) are fully understood, appropriately managed and complied with when planning projects, developing materials, executing projects and contracting vendors
Ensure inspection readiness with respect to personal training compliance, and availability of recent CV and individualised Job Description
If commissioning contractors or third-party organisations, put contracts in place and provide training so that these individuals also act in accordance with Johnson & Johnson HCC requirements when interacting with Healthcare Professionals and report adverse events and complaints (as above).
Communication with others outside Janssen
Companies who supply L&D consultancy, skills and resources, and companies who design and deliver clinical learning materials for brand training. The contacts are aligned to frequency of product and sales training and are of high importance.
Customers: For support with training staff such as In-Call Excellence Days (ICED)
Communication with others within Janssen
Senior functional and BU leaders and CVT stakeholders: To understand priorities, identify performance gaps and define appropriate solutions. To engage with strategic Business Planning with a view to oversee and coordinate product and skills training and to align training. Contact may be through regular CVT meetings, and scheduled meetings for this purpose, though not exclusively. Contact and relationships are of high importance
Line Managers: Contact prior to and post training events to ascertain pre and post learning objectives and evaluation. Contact is of high importance
Medical Department and L&D support team: Copy approval of an L&D generated job bag. Frequency is based on the number of job bags – these include training manuals, summaries of clinical trials, training materials which include product claims and briefing documents.
HR business partners and L&D colleagues at local, regional and global (J&J Learn) levels as required: For shared insight and development of holistic and strategic L&D plans based on enterprise and local priority objectives and strategies, business environment and organisational insights
Resource Management
Propose, manage and monitor annual budget for training and development activities in assigned business units
Decision Making Autonomy
Input into strategic and operational decision making e.g. OpCo Learning Strategy,
policy, technical competency models, sales force capability and strategic projects as
and when assigned. Decides on agenda for L&D interventions in conjunction with key stakeholders.
how to succeed
You should have experience in the role of a learning and development manager, collaborating with various business areas. While a background in scientific, pharmaceutical, or healthcare fields is desirable, we are open to considering candidates from other backgrounds who can showcase excellent communication skills. You will be working with highly experienced professionals in this role.
You will also bring:
Coaching ILM Coaching Level 5 certificate (or equivalent / proven relevant experience),
Professional Selling Skills Trainer accreditation or equivalent would be preferred
Performance Consulting accreditation would be an advantage
Certified On-Line Learning Facilitator (or equivalent)
Insights Discovery Trainer accreditation (or equivalent)
Team Effectiveness accreditation (or equivalent)
Clear evidence of regular or ongoing role-relevant continuing professional development
Experienced and highly capable, L&D Professional comfortable at working cross functionally and at all levels
Strong understanding of the pharma and healthcare sectors would be an advantage
Account Management experience or training accreditation/experience
