Project description

The GEMINI consortium is a collaborative project, funded by the European Commission, composing of 19 partners globally. The main goal of GEMINI is to develop a validated computational model or a digital twin in health care for stroke patients which will help physicians determine the best treatment options for their patients. These digital twins will be validated by bench testing, patient specific cases, and a clinical trial. 


roles and responsibilities

Embedded in a multidisciplinary group of R&D engineers and scientists at CERENOVUS, reporting to the NTI Manager, and in collaboration with GEMINI consortium partners, you as the Post-Doctoral Biomedical Research Engineer, will contribute to advancing in silico clinical trial methods in the field of acute ischemic stroke. This will involve: 

  • Develop a deep understanding of acute ischemic stroke pathology and its treatment in the acute setting.

  • Become thoroughly familiar with modelling of acute ischemic stroke and mechanical thrombectomy procedures.

  • Acquire an extensive knowledge of the current state of research relating to acute ischemic stroke including stroke clot composition, and mechanics, clot-device interaction, and fracture characteristics.

  • Characterize changes to mechanical properties and fracture characteristics over time and after exposure to thrombolytic agents.

  • Compile, analyze and interpret data.

  • Collaborate with colleagues internally and externally, with clinicians and academic researchers.

  • Communicate project progress and results.

  • Write procedures, specifications, and project reports. 

  • Write and contribute to articles for publications in peer reviewed journals and for presentation at international scientific conferences.


how to succeed

  • PhD in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine or equivalent.  

  • Experience in biomechanical testing of biological tissue together with modelling and simulation with high performance computing is an advantage. 

  • Experience in cardiovascular or neurovascular diseases, medical devices or instruments including catheters and stents would be desirable.

  • Must be able to collaborate with researchers working on other topics in an international multidisciplinary team.

  • Must possess a strong work ethic, creative problem-solving skills, and be capable of working on own initiative. 

  • Must have excellent writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

  • Must have demonstrated data review and statistical methods skills.
