At Engineering & Property Services (E&PS) we take care of all J&J buildings in Norderstedt providing services from Real Estate, Engineering & Strategic Project Delivery to Facilities Management. The Project Safety DRI in Europe (Germany) is responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. They lead safety training, investigate incidents, and foster a safety-first culture across projects. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in safety management within industrial, construction, or data center environments, with strong leadership, communication, and proactive hazard mitigation skills. They collaborate closely with project teams, contractors, and authorities to promote safety excellence and maintain high safety standards regionally and internationally.
roles and responsibilities
You will be responsible for developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations across projects. This will involve:
Develop and enhance the regional Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring full compliance with German and European safety regulations, including DGUV and EU directives.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and hazard analyses tailored to construction and industrial environments.
Lead safety training initiatives, including site-specific inductions, hazard awareness sessions, and emergency response procedures.
Monitor safety performance via audits, inspections, and safety metrics; implement corrective actions promptly.
Collaborate with project teams and contractors to embed safety into all project phases.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; develop and oversee effective corrective and preventive measures.
Support and participate in internal and external safety audits and inspections.
Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging employees, contractors, and stakeholders at all levels.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities in accordance with regional requirements.
Maintain current knowledge of regional safety legislation, standards, and best practices.
Participate in process risk analyses, monitor their quality, and develop targeted process safety training programs.
how to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will need a strong background in safety management, expertise in German and European regulations, and the ability to drive a proactive safety culture. You will also bring:
Required:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Safety, or a related field.
5-7 years of safety management experience, ideally in construction, industrial, or healthcare sectors.
Strong knowledge of German and European safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
Ownership of specific EH&S topics linked to Process Safety Management (PSM) or Technical Safety, e.g., ATEX, HAZOP/LOPA, SIL/PL, Static Electricity, Machine Safety.
First point of contact for daily EHS questions, incident investigations, technical changes, and continuous improvement initiatives within a production environment.
Additional training in process or technical safety, with a willingness to pursue further development.
Proven track record of achieving results independently and within diverse teams.
Strong interpersonal skills capable of engaging all organizational levels.
Fluent in German and English.
