Duration: 18 months (opportunity for a contract extension)
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Pay rate range: Competitive hourly rate (PAYE, Umbrella and Ltd pay type options available)
The Research and Development Scientist/Engineer will be part of the R&D team, an exciting group of engineers and scientists dedicated to understanding unmet needs in neurovascular diseases (such as stroke) and developing innovative device solution to improve their treatment. R&D Scientist/Engineer will provide inputs to the research and development team and the wider JnJ MedTech Neurovascular business by setting up and running research projects relating to liquid embolisation. Clear establishment of the link between the research carried out and final medical device design is a critical part of the role. Communication to internal partners and to physicians requires the individual to be authoritative on the company’s research and the state of the art of global research activity in the field.
roles and responsibilities
Conducts research internally or using external sources to meet R&D needs in the development of devices for endovascular embolic materials.
Work with other team members on research planning, execution, analysis and reporting as needed. Collaborate with external researchers at third party research bodies.
Provide meaningful output that can be utilised by product development teams, e.g. analysis of data from literature, in-vitro test model development, in vitro and in vivo pre-clinical experiments, and test protocol development.
Responsible for working to project timelines, accurate completion of activities, ensuring project reviews are timely, while effectively communicating project updates, risks, and issues to management on a timely basis.
Assist with testing to assure product meets specification
Support to engineers in equipment set-up
Building and prototyping new materials/device for neurovascular diseases.
Leverage and liaise with external vendors / resources to achieve project goals.
Write procedures, protocols, specifications, and reports and perform data analysis. Maintain accurate inventory records
Understand physician (user) techniques and clinical needs (disease state) and assist in developing product training materials.
To ensure that the lab is kept clean and tidy at all times and adhere to good housekeeping practices.
Other duties as assigned or required.
how to succeed
Ability to communicate effectively to senior industry leadership and leaders in the scientific community.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in medical device or a related industry.
Exceptional work ethic–ability to “rollup sleeves”.
Self-directed, able to manage time, multi-task and meet deadlines, independently and proactively.
Excellent communication skills- the ability summarise observations and communicate them with the wider team, share progress updates, describe and report issues etc.
preferred:
Third level qualification in Chemistry, Chemical Engineer, Industrial chemistry, Materials Science or equivalent.
Formulation design and testing
Experience with testing of soft polymers/hydrogels
Proven track record for conducting scientific research with significant outputs, such as peer-reviewed articles, white papers, and conference presentations.
