Imagine your next project as a Senior Programme Manager for the EU MDR Programme running in the Johnson and Johnson Medtech division. This is the largest programme operating in the division today. This position requires a highly-motivated individual with intellectual curiosity and proven leadership skills.

The Johnson & Johnson MedTech segment covers interventional solutions, orthopaedics, surgery and vision, with brand names such as Biosense Webster, Cerenovus, DePuy Synthes, Ethicon, Acclarent and Acuvue.


European Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR) is a regulatory requirement that ensures high standards of quality and safety for medical devices that are being produced in or supplied into Europe. It impacts products that are supplied globally. The EU MDR programme has been running since 2016 with EU medical device regulation changes coming into force in 2021.


Role overview:

As a senior programme manager you will join Johnson and Johnson’s EU MDR Transition team supporting the transition of programme activities (budgets, resourcing, processes, and knowledge transfer) to the Orthopaedics, Ethicon and CSS businesses in Medtech working with the R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Commercial Integration functions.


The role is responsible for program governance, planning, execution, and leadership reporting needs for the EU MDR program. This role will work with key senior business leads and finance stakeholders across the Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices businesses to support the transition activities from a central programme management structure back to the Medtech division base businesses (Orthopaedics, Ethicon and CSS).


roles and responsibilities

  • Partnering with key business stakeholders to lead and develop the transition programme of activities with clear objectives, deliverables, milestones, and timelines, in the budgeting, resourcing, systems and processes, and knowledge transfer workstreams; linking programme activities to budget forecasting and the identification of future requirements.

  • Work with key business stakeholders to lead the documented handover of end to end process and system changes from the MDD to MDR regulation, highlighting the changes, and working with finance stakeholders to quantify the cost implications of process and system changes.

  • Work with key business stakeholders to lead the documented knowledge transfer of end to end process and system changes from the MDD to MDR regulation, covering engagement, communication, training materials, and educational resources.

  • Use expert communication, influencing, and leadership skills to establish a common understanding of the transition programme and workstream objectives, deliverables, milestones and timelines.

  • Partnering with key business stakeholders to develop the governance structures that track and measure transition programme performance against the defined objectives, deliverables, and timelines.

  • Partnering with key business stakeholders, develop a standard-format roadmap of transition reporting programme deliverables, including data collection and analysis, that link programme activities to budget expenditure and forecasts, highlighting risks and opportunities to track progress and support the transition of programme activities back to the base businesses in the Medtech division.

  • Support key business stakeholders in the establishment and running of the transition programme governance meetings in each of the businesses in the Medtech division.

  • Prepare and present PowerPoint presentations that include business insights, financial analysis,  and recommendations to assist governance forums with decision making.

  • Support the businesses to identify, develop, and implement process improvement initiatives and opportunities to simplify and automate.

  • Support the creation of monthly updates and reports for senior leadership.



how to succeed

You will have strong decision making capabilities, be able to solve complex problems and will be able to collaborate well with colleagues and stakeholders, particularly remotely. You will be able to influence and negotiate project outcomes with senior stakeholders, often across multiple functions. You will also bring:

  • 8+ years’ experience in programme management in a multinational corporate environment influencing or managing Quality, Regulatory or Business Transformation project teams. 

  • Recognised Qualification or Certification in Project Management is preferred.

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Business, Operations, Business Strategy, Supply Chain is preferred.

  • Proven experience in programme/project management, business process management, knowledge transfer, and data management gained from working in large programmes.

  • Previous experience in preparing and presenting PowerPoint presentations that include business insights, financial analysis, and recommendations to assist governance forums with decision making.

  • Excellent organisational, analytical, written, conceptual, communication, and interpersonal skills while working in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment. 

  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft products- Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Word is required.

  • Proactive approach and the ability to work independently to manage multiple tasks and a range of complex projects to completion in a virtual global team environment.

  • Ability to build strong relationships.

  • Excellent communication, engagement, and influencing skills.

  • Collaborative approach working with key stakeholders and teams in a multicultural remote team.
