Simulation Engineer
Simulation Engineer
Location: Vision care, Limerick, Ireland - Hybrid
Duration: 12 month contract
Hours: 39 hours
Imagine your next project leading the development of advanced simulation models for batch production lines, where you will use your expertise to drive throughput and optimize global manufacturing processes for a leader in eye health.
roles and responsibilities.
Lead development of simulation models for batch production lines using AnyLogic (discrete-event, agent-based and hybrid approaches as applicable).
Translate shop-floor processes, control logic and material flows into validated simulation models.
Run optimization experiments to improve throughput, reduce WIP, minimize changeovers and/or improve utilization (e.g., parameter sweeps, metaheuristics or built-in optimizers).
Integrate models with available data sources (MES/ERP/CSV/SQL) for calibration and scenario input; support simple data pipelines or scripts (Python/R/SQL) as required.
Validate models against historical data and conduct sensitivity and what-if analyses.
Produce actionable recommendations and quantify expected KPI improvements (throughput, cycle time, lead time, OEE, etc.).
Provide documentation, model source files, runbooks and training for stakeholders to run scenarios independently.
Support stakeholder workshops to capture requirements, present scenarios and obtain sign-off.
Maintain version control of models and ensure reproducibility of experiments.
how to succeed.
Proven experience (typically 3+ years) developing industrial simulation models with AnyLogic.
Strong understanding of discrete-event simulation concepts and manufacturing line mechanics (batching, setups, changeovers, constraints, buffers, conveyors, robots, manual workstations).
Experience designing and running optimization experiments and analyzing results.
Proficiency with data handling for model calibration (CSV/SQL, basic data cleaning). Familiarity with Python or R for data analysis is a plus.
Practical knowledge of manufacturing KPIs (throughput, cycle time, takt time, WIP, OEE) and methods for validating model fidelity against them.
Good software engineering practices: structured model building, documentation, modularity, and version control.
Strong communication skills for presenting results to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research, Systems Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Prior experience modeling automated equipment (robot cells, AGVs, PLC logic) and/or hybrid environments (mix of automated + manual).
Experience with integrating simulations to external optimizers or custom optimization code.
Familiarity with manufacturing scheduling, constraint-based planning or advanced planning systems.
Experience implementing models that feed dashboards or digital twins for ongoing operations.
